I was tagged by Crystal at Paper Royalty to do the spring cleaning book tag. Thank you so much for tagging me! I love doing tags. You can check out her post here.
The struggle of getting started: a book or series you struggle to begin because of its size
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I really want to read this series but there are quite a few books and the last one is massive.
Cleaning out the closet: a book or series you want to unhaul
I actually unhauled books for the first time a few days ago. If you want to hear more about it click here.
Opening windows and letting fresh air in: a book that was refreshing
Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney. It totally could have became a cliche since the premise is a young woman having an affair with a married man, but luckily it didn’t. It felt real.
Washing out the sheet stains: a book with a scene you wish you could rewrite
I would rewrite Laurie and Amy getting together in Little Women. I don’t like them together. Amy should have ended up with anyone but Laurie. Wait scratch that, I’d rewrite Anna and the French Kiss to eliminate the unnecessary love triangle between Etienne, Ellie, and Anna. Etienne and Ellie should have split early on in the book.
Throwing out unnecessary knickknacks: a book in a series you didn’t think was necessary
I don’t read that many series to begin with, so that’s hard to answer. I really can’t say. But in general, I find that novellas in series are unnecessary.
Polishing doorknobs: a book that had a clean finish
Spotlight by Jacqueline E. Smith. Like I mentioned in my review of it, it wrapped up the storylines perfectly. I was a happy camper after reading it.
Reaching to dust the fan: a book that tried too hard to relay a certain message
the witch doesn’t burn in this one by Amanda Lovelace. I liked this book but it didn’t have the ease of the first one, so it ended up being repetitive and didn’t live up to its full potential. Some of the poems did feel a little forced.
The tiring yet satisfying finish of spring cleaning: a book series that was tiring but satisfying to get through
The ACOTAR series. ACOMAF and ACOWAR were long and took me about a month to read each one. But they were oh so good!
I tag…
Thanks for reading!
xoxo,
Jessica

I have Amanda lovelace’s books but cant get myself to start because most reviews I read say they’re underwhelming. 😦 😦

I think it largely depends on whether or not you like her style. A lot of people say that the way she writes poetry is not poetry. Personally, I like her style, so I do like her books.

Hope I enjoy them as well. I love poetry so much so maybe. 🙂 🙂

I am glad to hear that ACOTAR was worth the read. I have really thought about starting on this serie ☺️

The first book is the weakest out of the three, but the second and third books are amazing. So worth it!

Your point about Little Women is such a good one… that scene felt so forced! Great answers! 🙂

Thank you! That was the only thing I didn’t like about Little Women.

I love The Lunar Chronicles – although I didn’t like Winter – but ACOTAR just doesn’t appeal to me.

I adore TLC! + I still haven’t read The Witch Doesn’t Burn In This One, but I want to!

Oh thankfully the novellas in The Lunar Chronicles aren’t important at all! I’ve bought all four books and never saw the need for the novellas – I did read two of the short stories because Marissa Meyer was on Wattpad 🙂
Totally agree with you on the novellas in series never being important! I remember when the additional book to the Divergebt series was released – an epilogue of sorts set after Allegiant, and I thankfully never bought owing to all the Goodreads reviews. Did you read it?

I’m glad to hear that the novellas in the Lunar Chronicles aren’t that important. I’ve never read the Divergent series actually so I’ve never read that novella.
I feel like novellas are never as good as the books that are in the series.

No problem. I noticed that you do a lot of tags, which is why I tagged you.

It’s mostly because they’re easy and I haven’t gotten around to actually typing up any reviews yet haha

Lol. I’m the exact opposite. I write way too many reviews and not enough non-review stuff. But I am trying to work on that so I have a better balance.

Let me know what you think! Honestly though, ACOTAR is not as good as the other two books in the series.

I’m so glad you brought out Amy and Laurie’s relationship here. Isn’t it just the worst?! Why couldn’t Laurie have just pined away for Jo all his days?! Or something like that, if Jo wouldn’t have him. 🙂
So, would you be interested in joining my L. M. Alcott reading challenge this June? (+ there’s a giveaway!) Details are on my blog…
