I received a copy of this book for free for promotional purposes.

What a fun and crazy ride! Action, adventure, delicious food, this manga had it all.

I loved the juxtaposition of the two main characters. Gordon is a gruff middle aged man running a food truck. Arisa, on the other hand, is a naive and very hungry girl. They don’t have much in common (other than the fact they both know how to fight and have mysterious backgrounds), but they have a dynamic that works. Gordon acts as a sort of quasi-father figure/protector to Arisa.

Since this manga is titled Crazy Food Truck, I have to talk about the food. The pictures of the food looked so yummy! It made me so hungry. I also loved the “recipes” included at the end of the book. That was a fun touch.

I enjoyed the artwork a lot, especially the fantasy creatures like the sand squid and puffer cow. There is quite a bit of nudity regarding Arisa’s character that sometimes seems unnecessary. However, there may be a reason for it since Arisa’s background is alluded to but not revealed. There is something “off” about her that could explain her constant nudity.

Overall, I had so much fun reading this! I cannot wait to see what happens in the next volume.

This was a fun and wild ride!

You can’t review a graphic novel without first talking about the artwork. The art in this book is colorful, vibrant, and full of life. It complemented the story beautifully. Additionally, the dragon illustrations were superb. They were depicted as fierce and majestic.

The story was so entertaining. I’m a sucker for fantasy adventure quests. Plus, who doesn’t love a tale about dragons? At the same time, there was also a lot of heart and emotion throughout which gave the story some balance.

However, the ending felt a little convoluted. There was a lot going on. Luckily, this is the first book in the series, so more will be revealed in the coming book. The end does set up the next book nicely. I am very intrigued to see it how unfolds.

I also loved the characters. Grace and all her friends were fleshed out, dynamic characters. I was glad that their backgrounds were touched upon. It made them feel more real and relatable.

Overall, this was a highly amusing graphic novel. It’s aimed at middle grade readers, but can be enjoyed by people of all ages. If you’re a fan of dragons or Chinese mythology, be sure to check this one out!

Review: Eve 2.0 (The Gamer Series #1)

Rating: ★★★½

I received this book for free from TLC Book Tours as part of a review tour.

This was such a fun book! The premise is so cool and makes for an exciting read. The characters get launched into a wide range of video games and it was interesting to see how they adapted to each one.

One of the things I loved about this book was that each chapter of the book had a corresponding song to listen to, so you end up with a whole playlist of songs. I have to say that the selection of music was so good! Some of the songs were “Under Pressure” by Queen, “Livin’ On a Prayer” by Bon Jovi, and “In the End” by Linkin Park.

I also liked the interlude chapters which gave the point of view of Gwen’s father. Those chapters added a little bit of mystery and intrigue to the story.

Since this is the start to a series not everything was 100% resolved which makes me interested in the sequel.

One thing I didn’t like however, was that the book felt a little long and slightly repetitive. There was a lot of bickering between the characters which happened every time the characters got thrown into a new game. With a little more editing the book could have been more concise.

Overall, if you’re a gamer then you’re sure to like this one!

Review: Dawn (Hero Society #1)

Rating: ★★★★★

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this but that’s not surprise considering that I love superheroes and I love romance. Give me a book with both and of course I’ll love it!

This was a really good start to the series. I always love the whole concept of heroes getting together to fight the bad guys. I will never not love that.

The two main characters, Draco and Rose, were amazing. They had a ton of chemistry and overall made a really cute couple. Draco reminded me a bit of the Wolverine because he was such a recluse. He was so manly, like damn, I want a piece of that too. Rose, looks-wise, reminded me of Dove Cameron (who I have a massive celebrity crush on). I loved that despite being a virgin, Rose was very open and comfortable about her sexuality, because not all virgins are clueless about sex.

The supporting characters were great as well, especially AJ. I can’t wait to see more of his character.

Story-wise, this book was incredibly fast paced, I had a hard time putting it down!

Additionally, I loved that it included a playlist. I love it when books include playlists because I like matching up songs to different parts of the books. Some of the songs on the playlist are some of my favorites like “Believer” by Imagine Dragons and “Wings” by Birdy.

Overall, if you love superheroes and romance, you’ll definitely love this! I can’t wait to start reading the next one!
