September 2019 wrap-up

Hi beauties! I am back with another wrap-up and I just have to say that I am thrilled with how much I read this month. After an incredibly sucky August, I smashed September and read 10 books.

Here’s what I read:

Overall, I read some amazing books this month. I read 3 books off of my Spooky TBR which I am really happy about. I’ve never did a themed TBR before so I had no idea if I could actually follow it, but so far so good.

How was your September? What was your favorite book that you read this month? Tell me in the comments!

Summer reading update: How Keanu Reeves is making me read less

Hi beauties! I thought it was about time I gave you guys a reading update since I haven’t done one in literally forever. As a law student with no summer job when the semester ended I was like, I have so much time on my hands. I’m going to read all the books! But then something monumentous happened. I developed a crush on Mr. Breathtaking himself, Keanu Reeves.

I’ve always known of Keanu Reeves. I knew he was in Speed and The Matrix. I knew he was part Asian. What I didn’t know was that he was hella hot and such a cool dude.

Basically it all started when I watched Always Be My Maybe. I knew Keanu was in it, but I watched it mainly for Randall Park. When Keanu came on screen I was like, No. No. No. That cannot be Keanu Reeves. Why did no one tell me he was this hot and this funny? How did I miss this? The seed for my crush was planted at that moment.

As pretty much everyone with an internet connection knows, this is the year of Keanu. He’s everywhere. It’s no surprise that my crush on him grew exponentially. Not only is he super good looking at any age, but the more I learned about him, the more I liked him. He’s such a humble and down to earth guy. Like did you know he owns a publishing house called X Artists’ Books and published a poem he wrote called Ode to Happiness? He also owns a motorcycle company called Arch Motorcycle. Talk about getting a guy who can do both. So swoon-worthy.

To satisfy my Keanu Kraving (a term I just coined right now) I decided to watch as many of his movies as possible. Prior to this crush I’ve only watched bits and pieces of Speed and The Matrix; nothing substantial.

As of the writing of this blog post I have watched the following movies that feature Keanu in some capacity:

  • Always Be My Maybe
  • Toy Story 4
  • The Matrix
  • John Wick
  • John Wick: Chapter 2
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum
  • Destination Wedding
  • The Neon Demon
  • SPF-18
  • Point Break (currently watching)

And I’m just getting started. I still have more movies left on my Keanu binge. As you can see, this cuts into my reading time significantly. I’m not reading as much as I would like to. But I’m 100% okay with that because Keanu Reeves. Enough said.

Have you fallen prey to the Keanussance? Let me know in the comments!

Reading update: I’m separated from my TBR!

So I took an early Thanksgiving break and came back home a little early. Now, I’m unexpectedly staying longer than I initially planned to. The issue? I only brought two books with me. And I just finished reading one of them. I just didn’t have the space in my carry ons to bring more books because I had to bring my law books, notebooks, and laptop to study. I had no room.

Now I’m left with the other book I brought and a book that accidentally got mailed here to my old address. The rest of my 60+ TBR books got left behind. There were some books on there that I really wanted to start reading soon. I also left behind my other currently reading book.

Now I’m in a dilemma of what to do after I finish these two books. Should I buy more books? Start an e-book? (I’m really terrible at reading those but maybe my desperation can change that) Or just wait until I get back?

Only time will tell! Stay tuned to see how this tragedy ends.

Quarter year reading update

With the end of March, we’re about a quarter of the way through the year. How time flies! I’ve been reading a lot a the past three months so I wanted to give you guys a little reading update.

How many books have I read?

So far I have read 31 books, which is really good for me. I’ve never started out a year this strong.I’m currently on a gap year so that’s probably why. I don’t have schoolwork to worry about.

How have I been doing on my reading goal?

For my reading goal this year I did the same thing as last year, which was to start low and adjust as needed. I did this so that I wouldn’t be overwhelmed and pressured to read. So far for these past two years, it’s been working great! I set my goal at 30, but once I got close I upped it to 35. I’m really happy with this method.

What have I been reading?

I’ve read all 8 of Jacqueline E. Smith’s books. She is an amazing Indie author who writes the best books. I’m seriously in love with her writing. I really recommend her book, Trashy Romance Novel. I’ve also read quite a few books from other Indie authors such as Control Freakz by Michael Evans and A Cactus in the Valley by Olivia Bennett.

Additionally, I finally read The Hate U Give and it was as amazing as everyone says it is. I also finally read Lolita and damn that was a crazy book.

I’ve loved most of the books I’ve read but a few of them (particularly The Echoes of Love and What the Valley Knows) were just so-so.

25 out of the 31 books I’ve read so far have been books I won in giveaways or review copies that the author or publisher gave to me and I am so thankful for that. Having a bookstagram and a blog has opened so many doors for me and I am eternally grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

What’s next?

More books of course! I definitely have some books that have been sitting on my TBR shelf for too long, like Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann, that I’m hoping to read soon. I start law school in August, so that will affect my reading time. For right now, I’m trying to enjoy all this free time I have to read!

How are you doing this year in regards to reading? Are you on track for your goal? What have you been reading? What has been your favorite read so far? Tell me in the comments!

xoxo,

Jessica
